About Jalandhar

Jalandhar is thought to be the oldest city in the Punjab region. It survived attacks by Mahmud of Ghazni a millennium ago and had some prominence during the period of the Mughals. The Imam Nasir mausoleum in the city is 800 years old. Today, the Punjab state has industrialized cities and has used modern technology to advance farm yields, especially of rice, wheat, sugar, milk, and dairy products. Jalandhar is known for its production of sporting goods and also for some world-class athletes. Nearby towns are famous for textile, drapery, and furniture manufacturing. The town of Ludhiana, 60 km away, is the home of Hero Bicycles, the world's largest bicycle manufacturer.
